I can go on about the Big Shitpile getting bigger by the day, but it's beyond depressing to keep kicking that can around - it ends up the free-fall isn't very free. During the day, keep your head up, but right now, whatever gets you through the night, it's alright.

Listening to the magnificent Billie Holiday should bring a smile to everybody's face, which is why she's in this week's Friday Five. Before or since, there's no other like Lady Day.

e.e.c. reminded me it was time to revist Morningwood's classic tune of a couple of years back. Go Friday's dress casual one step further and take 'em all off - I find this works best after visiting your local watering hole for lunchtime shots of Patrón. Why wait for the company Christmas party - do you really think they're going to have one this year?

In the Autumn of 1986, Coldcut was formed in the UK by computer programmer Matt Black and former art teacher Jonathan More. The duo helped turn remixing into a viable music genre that now gluts most music aggregator feeds. Black had entered Say Kids, What Time Is It? to a Capital Radio mix competition. More suggested a separate edit be made of The Jungle Book's I Wan'na Be Like You, which Black mixed with the break from James Brown's Funky Drummer. Through Black's contacts at Kiss FM, the song found public distribution, its popularity led to the offer of remixing Eric B. & Rakim's Paid in Full, which went on to become a Hip-Hop classic (h/t to this is tomorrow).
