ronnie spector vocal run-through

Great list, and nice to see it growing. I've always liked that Gen X 45, for some reason.

If I had to add anything it would be Phil Spector's vocal handclap run-through of "Be My Baby" with Ronnie. From The Goldstar Sessions Outtakes disc on the Phil Spector Box.

I first heard it here:

Cool link! After I post the main list, it's typical for people to make suggestions to add to it. I assume you meant Baby I Love You, since there's no copies of Be My Baby at the site.

John Mellencamp is perhaps the master of the handclap. There are only two songs on his seminal "Best That I Can Do" album WITHOUT them! The best though are prolly Jack and Diane and Cherry Bomb

Good one. Without doing a search, off the top of my head I'd say probably The Beatles with *someone*. How about Feist with 1,2,3,4 - I wonder who was in the studio with her? I know she had an allstar cast with her during her SNL appearance, some members of The Arcade Fire along with a few others.

Clap for the Wolfman
[info]flaregun
2008-10-23 05:51 am UTC (link)
Damned good selection this time around Mr. Snuh! I remember an album by Kansas where a band member was credited with 'hand claps', however, my memory fails me and I cannot remember the name of the tune so I will give you a hearty loud round of applause if you can help me out, rather than the wimpy 'golf clap' I deserve. Thanks.

My mind is too clouded to figure that one out right now, but it sure is some good trivia.

I'd considered Clap for the Wolfman, a song with a bit of history a lot of people aren't aware of. In 1973, to much aplomb, WNBC radio brought in Wolfman Jack. They had Todd Rundgren, The Bee Gees and The Guess Who cut promo songs in his honor, I have no doubt they were commissioned. Rundgren wrote a new tune which in later included on something/anything?, The Bee Gees redid Lonely Days, Lonely Nights ("... where would I be without my Wolfman") and The Guess Who popped out Clap For The Wolfman. Good for them they got a lot of mileage out of it. Man, all this useless trivial knowledge, I gotta go on Jeopardy one of these days.

GREAT list!

My favorite use of hand claps is Vyvienne Long's brilliant cover of The White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" done entirely with cello instead of guitar and hand claps instead of drums. Vyvienne Long is Damien Rice's cello player, BTW :) (or maybe you've heard it already, regardless, maybe other readers haven't!)
