Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
crash into me

Inspired by my trouble with problems post, I determined to motivate myself and get all the nagging items on my *to-do* list done, including the oxygen sensor for my car. The better part of three days and $200 later, mission accomplished. I was ecstatic getting it out of the way, the only auto-related thought entering my brain in the near future would be the high price of gas.

The next day, I woke-up with a hankering for eggs, opened the fridge and to my stomach's dismay, found none were nesting. Nothing a quick trip to supermarket wouldn't solve. I deemed to make record time and damn near did - I'd ran back to the dairy section, paid the cashier in about four minutes flat. I trotted back to my newly-fixed car to find a woman walking inquisitive circles around it - this is akin to hearing your license plate number read over a mic in a restaurant, your appetite disappears as you soon realize your next action is going to be a call to a towing company.

She told me her name was Sandra and that she didn't turn tightly enough when parking her car, she was sorry she took out the back quarter panel and was prepared to pay for the damage. I could faintly smell cheap alcohol on her breath, which is the sort of thing that gets ones attention when it's morning time. I accepted her apology - we exchanged information and it quickly dawned on me I had another car-related entry for my new *to-do* list. So, here's my attempt to lessen my angst by blogging about it, along with the requisite tunes that fit the occasion. Next time I run out of eggs, I'm heading for the cereal bowl.

Well hey, at least she told you about it! Two people have hit my car on separate occasions, and neither of them waited for me or left me a note.

Sorry to hear that. She was in the middle of writing a note and you can best believe I made sure her info checked out before I left. My last car was totaled, some loser drove into my parked car going 45MPH at 3AM and this is the replacement car. That was a fun bit of news to wake up to.

The neighbors claimed they banged on my door and windows, but I didn't get up. There was a note on my door, which I started reading after putting my eyes back into my head. My poor baby was totaled! It looked like this:

I loved that car - it was made of metal, not plastic as most of today's disposable cars are.

Hey, you're alive! I was wondering where you'd went. The car was totaled by the insurance company, I now drive a Ford Mustang. How are things?

Busy with nothing important.
Got a dog.
I'd be better if I had some money!
And a taco pizza...

What's the dog's name? The car should be fixed within the next couple of weeks, it's almost time to abuse a rental for a few days. Sounds like a roadtrip to me, I'm thinking desert. I gotta burn some road music for the soundtrack.

Juniper( I call her Juniper Ellen when she's naughty). She's a large pit bull, this was not my idea but I'm taking care of her almost 100% on my own. Losing patience, too.
You should load up the trunk with narcotics and do it Fear and Loathing style!

Oh, been there, done that. I like the desert for long distance mindless driving, helps clear the head.

You should call the dog Jennifer Jupiter, after the song.

I associate driving in the desert with sheer terror due to my expereinces in Senegal. Not good times.
We did sing that song but then when you are actually trying to call the dog it gets really confusing. She's pretty much a "Junie" now anyway.

I don't think our deserts have cockroaches the size of pitbulls, thank god.

You can say you named the dog after The Ohio Players guitarist!

I did not know that. But if I was going to name her after an Ohio-related guitarist it would have been Dan from The Black Keys, even more confusing since we have another Dan in the house.

I see he's a cousin of Robert Quine, that's interesting.

My first choice for this theme would be Haley Bonar's "Car Wreck".

for the safety of that driver and anyone in her path, a call to the police to report the accident would have been in order. And if, in the course of taking the report, the officer noticed a smell of alcohol, well, then, a little intervention may have been a good thing.

I hear you, but two things were to be considered. First off, nowadays, there's no way a cop would come to take an accident report unless people were seriously injured. The second thing - in San Diego, a drunk driving ticket, when all is said and done, will cost around $15,000 to take care of. I know it's hard to believe, but it's true - lawyer's costs run about $10,000. That's about the price for a down payment for a home and a bit nuts. The moral implication of letting a drunk to continue driving is there, and I fail on that note, but overall, I don't think anything's going to stop a drunk determined to drive. I made a judgment call, I agree perhaps it wasn't the best.
