the colbert green screen challenge
Those of you that watch The Colbert Report are aware of the John McCain Green Screen Challenge. McCain gave a speech that even Fox commentators felt boring, so Stephen Colbert kindly offered his help. Senator McCain was good enough to have his speech in front of a green backdrop, making it perfect to spice up using chroma key. The show has made available the raw materials for download, so if you're handy with video editing, you can replace the green screen behind McCain with something more exciting (links below). Here are some of the better ones.

Project Make McCain Exciting: Blue Suede Shoe Edition

Elvis Presley: Blue Suede Shoes - 2MB

Project Make McCain Exciting: Gray Ambition

  Madonna: Vogue - 8MB

Project Make McCain Exciting: Jedi Edition

John Williams & London Symphony Orchestra: Main Title from Star Wars - 9MB

Project Make McCain Exciting: Pulp McCain

The Lively Ones: Surf Rider - 5MB

Stephen Announces John McCain The Green Screen Challenge!
As Stephen mentioned on last night’s show, when Republican Presidential nominee John McCain addressed a crowd in Kenner, Louisiana on June 3, he did so in front of a green screen, thereby issuing a bold challenge to Americans to make him seem more exciting.

Here is the McCain footage as promised. Right-click and download now! Then upload your green screen makeovers to our server over here.

I've heard from a few people the same sentiments. I do my best to highlight overlooked music.

You have a Very good site..

Thanks!

Whatever gave you that idea? ;-)

I'm the moderator of [info]air_america, so I'd have to say yes. Sam is very talented, I wish Air America had learned how to use him properly.

Yeah, they sure screwed this one up. They lost Randi Rhodes - outside of Rachel Maddow, who is still on the network?

Highly enjoyable. Though it was the least well-edited, I enjoyed the "Gray Ambition" the most...though the thought of McCain dancing around in an open shirt is actually a little disturbing.

I love how the artist made sure the words rhymed - nice attention to detail that puts it over the top.

As is the thought of his Presidency!

And yeah, no kidding, oy.

I love how he just took credit for a GI Bill that he opposed. I think that gives one an idea what he's all about.

Pulp McCain, I think... You know, after watching a few of these, the speech gets so painful that I just can't deal with it any more...

My pleasure, it was a great piece of work, congratulations! Good luck in the competition, I'd have to think it'll be a finalist. If you win, remember us little people!

This post was linked to Metafilter, you should check out the comments to your video there: I've Been Saying That Shit For years

Yeah, I just looked at the Metafilter post. People seem to bristle a bit at the implied violence, although as one poster pointed out, at the end of that scene in the movie Jackson lets Tim Roth go and there's no shootout at all. Which was kind of the point. The challenge was "Make McCain Exciting" and there's nothing more exciting than a mexican standoff. :)

I am happy that the negative reaction (where there is one, the YouTube comments and rating are 99% positive) is bipartisan. The clip was lambasted at DailyKos but also on some conservative messageboards. My radical republican uncle called it "pathetic." So I guess I did something right.

Working on a few more clips now, hoping to break the record for green screen challenge appearances. :P

I was pretty shocked when I read the first comment about it being violent, that never entered my mind and it bothered me that someone would think that.

I'm surprised that the Kosacks gave it grief, you'd think they would be trying to calm down after all the Obama/Clinton internal wars they suffered through. If you drove a winger into expressing disgust, you've done your job!

I'd love to see more clips, I'll subscribe to your YouTube account so I can catch them. Don't forget, you have the "Snuh Bump" now, there's no way you can lose!

has mccain thrown the election?
(Anonymous)

John McCain, to the chagrin of his party, threw a gutterball when he selected that ridiculous creature from Alaska as his running mate. The Senator from Arizona who - for better or worse - can't tell a Baptist from a snake-handler, doesn't know what he has on his hands. Mayor Palin belongs to the "Dominionist" movement, a cult whose "support" for Israel is highly suspect (the Jews must be gathered in Israel for the Coming of Christ, who will then "perfect" them as Christians). We'd likewise be interested in her position vis-a-vis the infamous 13th forgery known as "Revelation 2:9." McCain's obvious ignorance of these matters has alienated a sizable portion of both the Orthodox and Reform Jewish communities. He had a clear opportunity to nominate the young congressman from Richmond, Eric Cantor, but chose instead to align himself with the sketchy Governor from Alaska, a lady who once tried to ban the teen classic "I Capture the Castle" from her local library. McCain's choice wasn't simply an insult to Jews, but to thoughtful Gentiles as well. Let's hope that he realizes his error before it's too late.

Cordially,
Matthew Anger

Palin had hands put on her to drive away any witchcraft - I'm wondering how long until she starts snake handling. She's certainly not a supporter of Israel and regularly quotes the writings of an anti-Semitic madman. I think it's beyond too late - his last desperate move was pretty much a campaign back breaker. Thanks for stopping by.
