Awesome post - the dancing is so funny. McCain reminds me of an evil Grandpappy Amos.

Great music! Thanks.

When I heard John McCain promise to veto every beer, I knew he was going to piss a lot of people off:

Do you remember the cover for Shirley & Company's Shame, Shame, Shame?:

She's the same Shirley from Shirley & Lee of Let The Good Times Roll and Feel So Good fame. Shame, Shame, Shame was written and produced by Sylvia Robinson of Mickey & Sylvia, who had a hit with Love Is Strange.

McCain's shelf-life has expired. What's with McCain and the blinking. Isn't frequent blinking associated with lying?

That album cover is great. I called my husband in and asked him sing the songs for me. He knows all this stuff. Sylvia used to live in his friend Bob's building in Hackensack. He was in the army with Tommy from the Capris and the Del Satins who backed up Dion. He wants to know if you heard of the song Good Good-Bye by The Bob Knight Four. He's been trying to track it down for a while. It's probably doo wop music doooh duuuuh buh duh de ya dum dum buh de bop a doo doe doe dee oh doe

Here's some info on TBKF: American Singing Groups: A History 1940 to Today. A bunch of good boys from Brooklyn, from the old neighborhood.

The Bob Knight Four: Good Good Bye

Sylvia's always been a Jersey person. I love this video:

My husband is all happy and even had a slightly detectable happy bounce. He couldn't believe it. Now he's sitting on the other computer and singing. I should have told him he couldn't have it unless he did the dishes. Too late now. Seriously, thank you. Glenn and now my husband - on a quest for a song lost in the past - I don't understand it - it's like trying to go to a time in the past. I wonder if it's a common thing - to me it's weird and has the makings of a Twilight Zone episode - Also it is pitiful that the internet is way too mysterious for any of us to find a song on our own. Like trying to thread a needle with boxing gloves on. Today has been a day of peculiar analogies. Do you think there are other people searching for a mystery song? Strange.

Shirley is adorable - TURQUOISE! And that screamy guy with her - just the right amont of screech I think.

I wonder how many people you made get up and dance.

Thank you again.

My husband is all happy and even had a slightly detectable happy bounce. He couldn't believe it. Now he's sitting on the other computer and singing.

That's what it's all about - connecting with the music on an almost ethereal level.

Seriously, thank you. Glenn and now my husband - on a quest for a song lost in the past - I don't understand it - it's like trying to go to a time in the past. I wonder if it's a common thing - to me it's weird and has the makings of a Twilight Zone episode

That's what music collecting is all about, the hunt for the song that used to on the radio when you worked in the fast food joint as a teen. You never think to get a copy of it before it's too late. There are so many songs part of my eternal pursuit I know I'll be dead before I get them all. Then there are the recordings you've read rumors about, those are part of the chase and make up a large part of what I keep my eyes and ears open for.

Also it is pitiful that the internet is way too mysterious for any of us to find a song on our own.

For me, the biggest thing the Net offers is access to music I've never dreamed of owning. I have found the rarest of rare recordings. I admit finding them is an exciting experience, I can not deny my nerdom.

Like trying to thread a needle with boxing gloves on. Today has been a day of peculiar analogies. Do you think there are other people searching for a mystery song? Strange.

There will always be a "mystery song" to find, thank god! That's what makes it so much fun.

BTW - I ripped Good Good Bye from a YouTube video.

Shirley is adorable - TURQUOISE! And that screamy guy with her - just the right amont of screech I think.

This is from the YouTube comment section:
For all that its worth, hes not "white", he's Cuban, and he's my pastor at Love Of Jesus Family Church in Orange, NJ
Jason Alvarez (at this time period his name was Jesus Alvarez)

You think the guy can sing.......you should hear him on bass!!!!!!!!!! Nasty!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how many people you made get up and dance.

Hopefully, a few! Dancing is good for the soul.

Thank you again.

It's my pleasure, glad I found your hubby's mystery song. It's not a bad tune at all.

I don't think you're aware of what an amazing find you backed into - a couple of complete National Lampoon comics. My sense of humor was totally cut from that magazine, it was a bible of modern day comedy.

The Ventures of Zimmerman: The National Lampoon Oct. 1972

Son-O'-God Meets Zimmerman: The National Lampoon May 1974

Mucho gracias, this is more than payback for the song!

My sense of humor was cut from the National Lampoon too. I remember something from back then - strange what one remembers.

I am the Queen of France
I love to sing and dance
And if you don't believe me
I will punch you in the pants.

I dunno why I thought it was funny or why it stuck in my head.

I think this was also from there
"you know I can't hear you with a banana in my ear."

Here's a bonus for you for making songs appear like magic

Here's a good one: Mark's Very Large National Lampoon Site.

For me, the two most memorable things were a Gahan Wilson strip of how to create a politician (I'd love to find that) and Bruce McCall's incredible art deco ads for imaginary luxury autos.

My request in the newsgroup stands unanswered like a chicken singing opera in Iowa. It's prehistoric as far as the internet goes. Maybe I'll think of something.

Thanks for the song again :)

They have a dvd of all the National Lampoons here They say the quality of the scans isn't so good.

Jeez, it looks like the scans on in PDF format, which is high quality, but I hate working with PDF. Either way, I'm probably going to buy it, thanks for the link!

After going through too many unreliable file providers to mention, I finally broke down, bought a domain and server space with unlimited storage and transfer. This means no more problems and at one third the cost - it's a happy day!

You could have all the songs in the entire universe! Your own domain and you'll be lord of the realm. Are you going to go all the way with a stand alone blog? One of my friends has an independent blog and posts update announcements in livejournal. It would probably take a lot of effort to promote a stand alone. After a year I just got my health blog hooked up to a big hospital system. I am so excited about it. I only just added a statcounter. I got 6 hits today :)

Are you going to go all the way with a stand alone blog?

Most regulars read via rss feed - can anyone tell the difference between an LJ and a blogspot feed? It's like Jon Stewart said, he didn't think what channel his show was broadcast from made a difference nowadays, because people watch it on many different mediums. There's blogs that refuse to link to me because I'm on LiveJournal, most of them are run by people that felt they needed to leave LJ to be taken seriously, since they see it primarily as a social network. I can't see the difference in what I post at Star Maker Machine (outside of more mainstream music) - I do think LJ's instance to have a huge black login box on the top right side ruins the aesthetic appeal and their decision to have ads forced me to get a paid account (btw, readership went up 20% after people weren't having to deal with those snap widgets).

The only thing that matters is what readers think and the stats say they like it. Right now, my readership is higher than most of the non-commercial music blogs. Metafilter linked to this post and in 2 and a half days, I had 6,000 hits from them.

After a year I just got my health blog hooked up to a big hospital system. I am so excited about it.

Wow - pretty cool!

Star Maker Machine looks rather FUN. I have bookmarked it and am glad I got on board during shoe week!

Metafilter linked here? Well is is a rather outstanding post. Metafilter is one of my favorites - I read it some of the time - sorry I missed it. 6,000 hits! Fame! Hi metafilters :)

My health blog started as an experiment in using some of my computer time constructively - for job-related stuff. It is a very interesting experience, especially the people you connect with. I sent my boss a link to it the first time yesterday. I am so curious to see what his reaction will be.

Perhaps in a years time I can build up to 10 hits a day - once I learn all the secrets of the internet :)

I've learned to keep meatspace people away from my blogs, not that many know what one is.

When at UseNet, I was involved in creating newsgroups, where I learned that promoting is more important than anything else. A few good things to do is to get in as many feeds possible, let the search engines know where you are, comment at other like-minded blogs. I check the stats constantly to see what's working and what's not and adjust accordingly. But the most important thing is content - if you have shitty content, fahgettaboudit.

My meatspacers don't know what blogs are either.

I decided I have shitty content - oh the moods I go through :)

But besides all that I have a question - an lj friend is going to San Diego and he's looking for a place to stay. He's just a kid and he doesn't have money. Do you know offhand if there are hostels or really inexpensive places to stay?

Here's where he asks if you have any suggestions

I listened to it a few times tonight, it still sounds fresh. Trevor Horn plays and produces, Anne Dudley joined in what was a precursor to Art Of Noise, a fav of mine.
There's also Thomas Dolby, one of my favorite blogging musicians, on keyboards. I feel it's a landmark album, it beat Paul Simon in incorporating Township Jive with Western music. I'm glad you prompted me to pull it out.
