I love X, and their version of that song.

I love how Exene screams, "I wouldn't want to stay here all night!". It's definitely one of those *time and place* songs, it brings me back to SoCal during the late 70s early 80s, when Punk took hold in California and how vibrant the burgeoning scene was. Billy Zoom is yet another overlooked guitarist.

Exactly. I was there too, and the excitement is still there for me.

One of the things that first comes to mind from those days - the early version of the Go-Go's. Before and after their set, they would grab guys out of the crowd and basically have extremely public sex with them, among other niceties. Those naughty, naughty girls!

I was lucky enough to catch most of the major Cali Punk acts back then, shows would be in places like The Scottish Rite Temple and The Lion's Club. It seemed every time I looked up The Dickies and The Alleycats were playing some dump. I wonder whatever happened to the Angry Samoans?

Oh the early gogos. We got the clap! (clap clap)

I do remember that some at least of the Angry Samoans were math grad students or something. Maybe they are all professors now.

The Go-Go thing was funny, since their record company marketed them as New Wave Barbie dolls. Didn't a movie about The Masque come out recently? I did a search and couldn't come up with anything, but I'm sure I read a LA Times review of it. I also did another search and came up with this, pretty funny: All about the Angry Samoans.

I've been an X fan for years. I generally go in more for the local, NYC punk, but X has always come through for me.

I was lucky enough to live in New York when Punk began, then moved out west during the 70s and watched it start from scratch all over again, I was able to see all the big names on both coasts. Here's an X song that's pretty appropriate now.

X: The New World

hey thanks for this! (i found you through substitute.)

sadly, i was stuck in utah, and in a sad little mormon girl body, when x was happening. but exene played slc on a solo tour (1992?) and she tagged in sharpie all down my friend's levi jacket. we were exultant.

That's another reason I like X, all the people in the band are nice, which is pretty rare. Did you know that Exene used to be married to Viggo Mortensen? They had a son together. I bet your friend still has that jacket!
