YouTube: shanghai subway hot kiss


Last September 2nd, a Chinese couple waiting for a train were caught passionately kissing by a Shanghai subway security camera. It would've gone by unnoticed except that a tape of the episode was uploaded to YouTube, complete with a running commentary along the lines of "better go get a room". It proved to be a popular clip, garnering more than 15,000 hits in two days.

The easily recognizable couple were so embarrassed they decided to sue the Shanghai Metro Operation Corporation, whose employees had posted the tape to the Net. The company fired two supervisors, punished another, then offered compensation and an apology to the pair.

Though I find the display of affection pleasantly amusing, something tells me Chinese culture isn't quite ready for reality teevee.

Hee hee, I tried to watch that but had to stop in the middle cause it just felt wrong. Is there a translation for what the voices are saying?

In YouTube comments, someone claims they're saying things in a Shanghai dialect like "I'm getting aroused", "I want some action too". It would be nice to have a translation, you can bet in the next few years the amount of westerners knowing Mandarin will increase.

What makes this video memorable is it's taken from the movie, Nothing But Trouble. In it, Dan Ackroyd played his character, Judge Alvin 'J.P' Valkenheiser, with a dildo on his nose.

haha, good story! why would they feel ashamed I think they should feel proud that they love each other so much and the world saw it!!

But you know it is strange I thought china is a place where if a man kissed a woman in the street or metro station they will get arrested!! like here in the Arab world but hey China is a better place then hahahaha!!

I don't know if public displays of affection are illegal in China, but I know it's culturally frowned upon, which is why the subway workers were dealt with harshly. What's the laws regarding kissing in public in your area?

It's certainly a shame that showing your love publicly isn't considered a pleasant sight.

well my friend if you are a foreigner you can kiss anywhere but if you are Egyptian or even look like Egyptian then you are in troube!!!
Kissing in streets here is classified as shameful action in public street!! what a strange name for an accsation haha so does this make kissing in bed a Shameful action in a private place hahahahah
You know Egyptian law is really strange!! it is totally secular refusing any religious signs in the country and ban any religious party yet it is also conservative!!! a law that doesn't punish homosexuality but punish kissing in streets!!
But laws are made to be broken just if you visit cairo look at any dark street you will see dozens of lovers kissing anywhere
even special places for love making are presented like Merryland garden ( yes this garden is named upon a US state)

hahah you are right, they talk the same way they are just 2 faces of a coin each asking for more conservatism, each of them attripute any economical or political or even sportic loss as a result of being far from god, each of them say we are peaceful and ask for the holly war and say that god want it and all of them are just trying to open new religious channels on satellites to collect more money even on the expence of the lord himself hahah.
You know that last year in Egypt and the Arab world about 20 new religious channels opened on one satellite alone. on the contrary anew code was done to block porn channels!!!
even 5 songs channels closed and now religious channels are even more than songs , news, variety channels together!!! yes this is driving me crazy!!
