it's the primary thing

In all the years I've been following US politics, I don't think I've ever seen as much interest in the Presidential primaries as I have of late. Americans are treating it like the latest hit reality show, talking out all the angles of each primary - anything that gets people more involved with the political process is a Good Thing. I think part of the reason for the excitement is that Bush will finally be gone - anything would be better, even an 12-speed Hamilton Beach Dispensing Blender, which isn't that far off from most of the current field.

The intrigue is palpable, which is causing mainstream media to run around like rabid dogs - *esteemed* anchorman, Tom Brokaw, had to spray Hardball's Chris Matthews down with a hose. But what causes me the greatest joy is the Mayor Of 9/11, Rudy Giuliani, is out of the running. If anyone would start World War 3, it'd be this guy. Norm Podhoretz, his pick for senior foreign policy team member, makes Dick Cheney look like Mahatma Gandhi.

So, enjoy the spectacle while it lasts, because on November 4th, the American people can punish only one of them.

What about Guiliani floating the idea of picking Cheney as a running mate? What planet is this guy from?

I forgot to point out how badly the Wingnuts are losing it, that's a great example. Maybe Dick will put Rudy on the Halliburton board of directors, this way they can both put their shares in a blind trust together. Fox woke up last Friday morning and saw the prospect of Huckabee as the GOP candidate and Obama the Dem pick, rather than Hillary. Huckabee scares the hell out of them when he says the Bible doesn't mention free-market capitalism, plus, they were all geared up to face Clinton with the *only person that could beat her*, Guiliani. All dressed up with nowhere to go, Rudy is a non-factor.

If the Democrats aren't happy with Edwards, Obama and Clinton, there's a guy waiting in the wings with just the experience this country needs.

I'd vote for Carter.

I don't know what made Guiliani think, "This is the year the late state strategy is gonna work!" Was it because that's all he could do?

Actually, I wish it would work this election cycle. Then maybe we can make Iowa irrelevant, like it's meant to be.
And Guiliani being the nominee I've always thought would be a dream. You can't make evangelicals vote for a Democrat, but you can make them more inclined to stay home.

Do you use a newsreader? If so, which one?

We must be the only people that liked Carter. Decades ago, he warned about conservation, which seems prophetic now. His only real problem was butting heads with Washington power brokers instead of working things out. He also choose his enemies poorly - I don't think taking on the CIA was a good idea, they returned the favor by worsening the Iranian hostage crisis.

Guiliani is now polling fourth in Florida, the state he expected to easily win. Atrios posted this about Rudy:
The memory of the Mayor of 9/11 might have won it for him, if only he'd stayed hidden in his crypt for all of these months instead of going out into the light.

Iowa *is* irrelevant, which is why I couldn't understand all the pundits calling the primaries over with - what's wrong with these people? I guess there hasn't been many blonde chicks disappearing lately, it's a slow news cycle.

Pat Robertson backed Guiliani, talk about strange bed fellows. It's been fun watching supposedly pious people reconciling backing an adulterer.

I don't use a newsreader, just read it all via syndicated feeds I subscribe to via my LJ, so I get it all on my friends page. It takes about 4-5 hours for me to make my way through all my subscriptions. What newsreader do you use?

I forgot about the Pat Robertson endorsement. At the time it seemed to me like Robertson was thinking, "We're pretty fucked. We'd better start building up the most popular Republican now if we are going to have a chance."

Thats my point. What makes Iowa not irrelevant is the weight the media puts on it. In reality, with how little they look like the rest of the country, and the crazy way the Democrats run the elections there it should mean nothing.

The GOP is in disarray. They don't have a credible candidate to appeal to the evangelicals other than Huckabee and they don't think he's with the program. That pretty much leaves McCain, who's definitely beatable. For once, it's fun to see a party other than the Democrats chasing their tail.

There's still a long process ahead before the conventions, it's unseemly to watch the talking heads act as if it's all fait accompli. Like, why bother playing the game if everyone already knows the results?

I'm more concerned about Bush's final year than the ups and downs of the primaries - it's such a fickle bunch of bullshit hype and dumbass motor mouths trying to sound edgy.

I'd be in favor of the death penalty in his case.

Wow - look at that hookah thingy - a gorgeous example of steam punk. Here's another:

that's really awesome - remember that video game - it was kind of in that style - where you had to go around and follow clues - MYST!!! Yeah that was it.

Well, that reminded me of this

Anyway, Happy New Year - I have to go to sleep - it is going to be a non-stop busy weekend - visiting my cousin and her family in Doylestown then my dad Sunday morning in Bethleham then my daughter Sunday afternoon in Allentown. Mitt Romney looks like a high school jock - kind of a pretty boy airhead. I bet he's hiding extra wives womewhere.

Have you tried other readers? It would be good to know which one is the most functional, since I expect to one day switch to a newsreader.

I've tried three or four others, and really wanted to like them so that my life wouldn't be entirely Googleized, but in the end thats just the easiest.

The YouTube arm of Google canceled my account because NBC complained of a clip and that I illegally used the Directors designation to label my account. They claimed one can only upload original work - if you have teevee clips they'll cancel the account if they find out.

I expect the primaries to be useless and Gingrich and Gore to be drafted in the conventions. After which the ice caps at the pole melt and we all die.

Gingrich pretty much dropped out a few weeks ago. That guy has more dirty baggage than Heidi Fleiss. Gore has his Nobel Prize, that should keep him happy for another four years.

it doesn't look nice at all if some one worse than cheni became a vice president, I thought that Bush's adminstration is the worst and no one will beat it, but seems like few politicians still can.
in Egypt, Bush will arrive today with sever anger against his visit also Egyptians aren't folowing this election as they did with the one before because they think that all candidates are the same in external policy and what we all fear is another neo con in the white house to start another crusade!!!!
