Ahhhh - LJ's oldest meme? I wasn't aware of that. Since we're posting links, I restored the tunes to a couple of posts, the music was down because I was tired of re-uploading them to new mp3 hosts as the old ones went out of business:
house music all night long

roots reggae sunday

My stats say a few hundred people a day keep making there way there, so since it's the season to be merry...

It's nice.

The Christmas posts get crazy hits, something between 50,000-100,000 unique visitors and I have the best one yet soon to come. I'll be restoring the old holiday posts as well, in the name of the season, you know.

It's never rains in Southern California, except for November 30th - it's pouring outside, definitely a mellow mood in the air. Aren't you going to ask me how my move went? Geez...

Rain, nice!

Haha, I'm a bad, bad friend!

I wasn't sure when you were moving but I did notice your IP address had changed so I should have asked!

Hey, Snuh! How'd the move go!?!

lightspeed.sndgca.sbcglobal.net - I like the "lightspeed" part. I'm getting 3MBs down and 1.45MBs up. I don't think I could go back to DSL after this, how quickly we get spoiled. They rolled out AT&T U-verse service in the area I moved to.

Hey, Snuh! How'd the move go!?!

It was the best-planned *anything* I've accomplished of late. I spread it out over three days and it went like clockwork, which helped keep away the typical stress that usually accompanies most moves. I love my new place, tons of cabinet/room space and it has a nice cheery tone. I'm overjoyed, honestly!

So far, so good. The fact this place was kept up so well is a pretty fair sign. One nutty thing is the apartment is warmed by heater coils in the ceiling - what an efficient way to provide heat, I bet it gets hot up there. The neighborhood is great for walking and I've been enjoying leaving the car behind.

Holy shit radiant heating - BE CAREFUL OF THAT!

I had an apartment in El Cajon that had radiant heating and I didn't know. I moved in during the middle of summer and I guess it was on, I don't know. It was fucking hot to be sure, but it was El Cajon!

Then I got a $400 electric bill. Yeah, that shit isn't cheap!

Most people outside of Southern California have the mistaken assumption that gas and electric bills here are smaller. It would be if they didn't charge some of the highest prices in the nation. That's the only real downside of this place, it's going to be expensive to heat. I was thinking of buying a space heater at Home Depot to keep the bill down.

I would! That one apartment in El Cajon had radiant heat, which I obviously stopped using, but every other apartment I had (El Cajon, Bankers Hill, Normal Heights) I didn't use heat at all - in fact none of them had heat options. I just used a space heater. And El Cajon gets colder than where you are.

Ananda Shankar is an interesting musician. From Wikipeda:
In the late 1960s Shankar travelled to Los Angeles, where he played with many contemporary musicians including Jimi Hendrix. There he was signed to Reprise Records and released his first self-titled album in 1970, featuring original Indian classical material alongside sitar-based cover versions of popular hits such as The Rolling Stones' Jumpin' Jack Flash and The Doors' Light My Fire. This album has become an enduring cult classic.

Returning to India in the early 1970s Shankar continued to experiment musically and in 1975 released his most critically acclaimed album, Ananda Shankar And His Music, a jazz-funk mix of Eastern sitar, Western rock guitar, tabla and mridangam, drums and Moog synthesizers. Out of print for many years, Ananda Shankar And His Music was re-released on CD in 2005.

We Are Wolves must be in the air today, The Music Slut posted this video of Magique:

si c'est magique c'est moi le magicien. The people in that video seem really Canadian to me for some reason.
So Ananda is the nephew of Ravi, I wondered if they were related or if it was just a common name over there or something. Shankars are cool, unless it's Norah Jones.

Oh she has a very pretty voice but her music is too easy listening for me and all of it sounds the same. Like I should be hearing someone tell Delilah about their relationship right before the song comes on. It makes me feel sad and depressed like all there is left to do is reminisce.

She's played with Charlie Hunter and has a side Punk band called El Madmo. I never met Ravi Shankar, but I understand he was quite a difficult person who wasn't much a part of his daughter's life.

I'm not carrying her water - I understand and agree with your assessment of her music being banal, but I would chalk that up to economics. It's rare to have the sort of sales she's reached, so I'm sure she's sticking to a tried and true formula that works. Once this sound has its run, I'd bet she'll stretch out musically - she's a talented musician.

I was wondering if I was going to get any comments on Be Bop Deluxe. I saw them open for The Tubes (who were on their first national tour) at the Calderone Theater in Long Island. Bill Nelson was a combination of David Bowie and Mick Ronson, here's an explanation from Nelson what happened to Be Bop Deluxe: The Story of Be Bop Deluxe's Bill Nelson and How His Record Label Ripped Him Off.

Here's another one off Sunset Finish.

You can thank MediaMax/TheLinkUp. They decided to shit on all their customers by losing all their files while transitioning to a new service. Even though it's a totally non-working service, they charged everyone their monthly fee, it deserves a post unto itself and will soon get one - check out their blog and read the comments, it explains it all too well: TheLinkup Blog. Here's the error message:
MediaMax Hosted File

The file you requested is a MediaMax hosted file. We are presently moving MediaMax files to The Linkup and this file will be available when the process has been completed.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

I restored the files in the post, here's the BeBop tune that I posted above in comments.

Be Bop Deluxe: Ships In The Night

This was my first Friday Five, it's interesting the amount of music bloggers that started posting FF ever since. Maybe one of them would be nice enough to start linking to me.

You get to go to all the good shows. I recently found out that M.I.A. was playing at a club 12 blocks from me. The trouble is I found out the night after they played. Damb. We Are Wolves are an excellent band, I bet it's a great show.
