I'm in the middle of listening to Bob Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour (TTRH) series that was broadcast on XM satellite radio and currently available via torrent. There's smaller downloads available, but I decided to go for the whole enchilada and grab all fifty hours, which is a whopping 3.65GBs in size - it took over two days, but well worth it. If you have torrent and are interested, it's available here.
At the beginning of the Father's Day show, Bob played the Horace Silver Quintet's "Song For My Father", which he pointed out Steely Dan had borrowed from in "Rikki Don't Lose That Number". Here's the two so you can make your own comparison:
Now, Bob isn't too proud to borrow himself, as you can hear when he offered up Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell's "Papa's On The Housetop", which is very reminiscent to "Tombstone Blues" - give them a listen:
It's fun finding the genealogy of popular songs. This seems to becoming a bit of a project for me, so more soon to come. In the meantime, try and check out Theme Time Radio Hour.
